Business claims

Property held under your company's name.

Businesses lose track of money differently from individuals. It is rarely one forgotten account. It is a scatter of small credit balances and uncashed checks across years, often filed under a name the company no longer trades as, and nobody's job to chase.

What we usually find

Vendor refunds and overpayments

Credit balances, duplicate payments, and refunds that were issued to an address or entity name you no longer use. These are the most commonly abandoned business property, because no one person owns the follow-up.

Uncashed payables and payroll

Checks issued to former employees, contractors, or vendors that were never presented. The funds go to the state, but they remain the payee's or the company's depending on the circumstances.

Property under a former entity name

If the business changed names, merged, or reorganized, property may still sit under the prior legal name. Searching your current name will not find it. Establishing the chain from the old entity to the current one is usually the main work.

Dissolved entities

If the company has been dissolved, who is authorized to claim depends on how it wound up and what the filings say. This needs establishing before a claim is worth filing.

Who has to sign

A business claim needs someone with authority to act for the entity, and the Treasury will want that authority evidenced. For an active company that is usually straightforward. For a dissolved or reorganized entity it takes establishing first, and we will tell you what is needed before you commit time to it.
